Take Me Apart released on October 6th, and we were not ready.
It was a Saint Heron weekend; Kelela’s listening party at the Underground Museum this past Saturday followed by Solange and friends Sunday night at the Hollywood Bowl.
The Underground Museum is an alternative art space, in partnership with MOCA. There was a bit of time to peek at some of the beautiful works before heading out to the garden where Kelela’s visuals were on loop (with MA DJ playing a killer set) and a beautiful crowd mingled in anticipation of her debut album. Celebrate her we did.
Take Me Apart has 14 tracks that express “an honest vision of how we navigate dissolving ties with each other yet remain sanguine for the next chance at love.”
Kelela’s milky voice over some trance-y instrumentals and synth along with some club like beats made for a really magical hour. The album feels personal, and not solely about examining relationships but also an insight into Kelela’s unique identity and influences through sound.
Her single “LMK,” produced by Kanye West and FKA Twigs associate Acra has been on repeat since its debut. Check out the full album below.
